Clare Bauckham

Primarily a vocalist, Clare also performs on piano and flute. Alongside this, she enjoys performing on ukulele and cajon, as well as her most recent acquisition, the tin whistle.

Born and educated in Derbyshire, music has always formed a huge part of Clare's life. Influenced by her parents' love of music, she was exposed to a wide variety of genres; ranging from her mum's violin, guitar and vocal performances; to her dad's love of rock and electronic music. Shows, concerts and festivals were a regular feature of Clare's school experience; accompanying and conducting her own junior school choir by the time she was in sixth form. During her teens Clare embraced every opportunity to perform in music projects in her local area. From guitar and pop choir workshops at the local YMCA, to 'The Chaos Project', a production of original works designed by local musician Tim Storer. This ignited her interest in live performance and cemented her decision to pursue music and education at degree level.

It was during her degree and secondary music PGCE that Clare experienced an extensive variety of live music, ranging from samba and taiko drumming, to musical theatre and early music; as well as designing and delivering music workshops for local Primary teachers. University performances shaped Clare's interest in sacred and secular choral music; performing in choir festivals around the UK and local ceremonies in Lincoln Cathedral. Alongside this were experiences performing in woodwind groups, early music groups, worship band and steel band.

After University Clare worked for a year in Central Nottingham delivering workshops in pop, rock and computer-based music alongside samba, taiko, and djembe percussion as part of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, 'Musical Futures' project. She ran her own Taiko drumming group on a Saturday morning as part of Nottingham music school.

Working as a music teacher in a Lincoln secondary school for 16 years, Clare has just recently had the opportunity to pursue her own music performance interests again, working with Heather and Crauford as part of 54 North, Castile Ceilidh band, Canwick Folk group and as a member of the IBCC choir.

Clare enjoys listening to and performing many styles of music with favourites including 80's/indie rock, 90s pop, electronic and film music. Favourite bands/musicians vary from Mika, Goo Goo Dolls, Foo Fighters, Sting, Genesis, Keith Urban and Jean Michel Jarre. To more recent discoveries of Skerryvore, Skipinnish, Manran, Tide Lines, Gary Innes and Capercaillie.
